Online course conveying critical illness distinctions developed as memorial to Roberta Ann Larcinese.

DALLAS, January 24, 2006 – Avalon Consulting, LLC, an innovator in the design and delivery of enterprise content solutions, has announced the delivery of two interactive E-learning course offerings for The Rich Center of Youngstown, Ohio. An externally funded facility for the study and treatment of Autism, located on the campus of Youngstown State University, The Rich Center for Autism will make the two courses: The Rich Center&’s Interactive Course for Asperger’s Syndrome Information; and The Rich Center’s Interactive Course for Autism Information, available for free on its website The course design and development effort was donated by Avalon as a lasting tribute to Roberta Ann Larcinese, a longtime benefactor and supporter of The Rich Center and is valued at approximately $20,000 in technology design and services.

“The immediate access, in a comfortable environment, to this quality of information cannot be stressed enough,” said J. Georgia Backus, executive director of the Center. “Parents, teachers, students and loved ones now have an innovative new source for acquiring the information they need that may help determine the most appropriate course of action when intervening and supporting a child with autism. We appreciate, and are extremely grateful to, organizations such as Avalon that care enough to donate their particular expertise to issues and programs that so desperately need this type of support.”

The purpose of each course, designed by Avalon’s enterprise E-learning team, is to disseminate topical information related to conditions of Autism and Asperger’s in a more dynamic format than is available through standard static web pages. The target audience for the course content is anyone interested in these conditions, such as teachers or students, or any person associated with either a diagnosed or suspected afflicted child. By completing the easy-to-navigate, interactive, E-learning courses an individual can acquire the knowledge to recognize autistic behaviors and to decipher the elements that differentiate Asperger’s from Autism. While the courses are intended to provide “light” training, visitors to the site who complete each course will have a better understanding of what Autism is, what Asperger’s Syndrome is, how the two conditions compare, and the treatment strategies associated with each.

“We are proud that we could apply our own service offerings in a manner we hope will make a significant contribution to the efforts of The Rich Center,” said Casey Green, director of business development at Avalon Consulting. “We are further pleased to have been able to offer this as a memorial to the generosity and dedication of Roberta Ann Larcinese to the Center. Our hope is not just that the courses will serve a functional purpose in further educating those who visit the site, but also serve to inspire individuals and corporations to emulate the graciousness of Mrs. Larcinese in support of the Center.”

The Rich Center for Autism was launched in 1995, through a collective, community donation, as a lasting tribute to the memory of Paula and Anthony Rich and their unborn child all killed in a tragic plane accident in 1994. The Center’s mission is to improve the social, educational and vocational success of children with Autism. Through its association with Youngstown State University, the Center provides referral, treatment, and support to families as well as education for professionals and students.
